Smoked Side Dishes for Fourth of July Cookouts

Smoked Side Dishes for Fourth of July Cookouts

Looking to go beyond the usual burgers and hot dogs for your Fourth of July cookout this year? Well, one way to elevate the whole thing beyond the main event is with some smoked side dishes.

A bunch of these sides spread out around the table makes everyone feel that they’re enjoying a true feast. The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate and be proud to be American, so don’t hold back on our very best food options! Oh, and they’re delicious.

At Goode Co. Shop, we specialize in pairing smoked meats like brisket, Texas sausages, and pork ribs with suitable sides. So, let’s dive into a look at our best recommendations:

Top Smoked Sides Dishes for Your Family on Independence Day

Smoked Mac and Cheese, with a Texan Kick

Here’s a barbeque twist on the classic mac and cheese. It’s creamy, cheesy, and great with brisket.

Simply, mix your cooked pasta with butter, the egg/milk mixture, and your preferred cheeses. Then, add a layer of cheese and put it on the smoker at around 300 degrees for 1 hour, or until all the cheese is melted. It’ll gain a gorgeous, crunchy top layer. Add jalapeños or brisket crumble to the mix for a Texan kick!

Pit-Smoked Pinto Beans

Smoky and spicy, combine your dried, soaked, and simmered pinto beans for 30 minutes at around 300 to 325 degrees. Add in some smoked bacon, tomatoes, seasoning, and spices to the taste you prefer. It’ll be unbelievable! You can then serve them up in a taco or as a side with your smoked meats.

Smoked Corn on the Cob

Put your corn on the smoker for a delicious and healthy smoked side dish with a barbeque twist. That smoke will give the kernels something different from the usual cobs your guests will eat at home. Use mesquite wood for the true Texan smoke flavor and season them with butter, lime and chili powder.

You’ll know the cobs are done when the kernels fall off with the test of a fork push.

Smoked Potato Salad

Potato salad is a staple of any Fourth of July cookout. But you can pack some flavor into this year via smoked potatoes.

First, coat the cleaned potatoes with olive oil and put them on a baking sheet in the smoker. Close the lid and wait for around 25 minutes or until they’re tender. Once they’ve cooled, you can either remove the skins or keep them or (your call), before combining it with your usual potato salad creamy sauce mix.

Smoked Deviled Eggs

Time for a game-changing twist on this old summer classic BBQ side dish, Deviled Eggs. Normally, you boil the eggs and then replace the yolk with fillings such as paprika, mayonnaise, or mustard. But if you smoke them in advance, you’ll gain an extra smooth texture.

Start by placing the eggs (in their shells) on the smoker at 325 degrees. After 30 minutes, you can submerge them in ice water, allowing you to peel their shells off carefully. Then, place them back on the smoker at around 150 degrees (the lower the better)! Placing them directly on the grill grates for around 45 minutes will give them an incredible flavor.

Smoked Barbeque Potatoes

Stuffed or loaded potatoes can also be smoked on your grill for that extra barbeque flavor. You can stuff them with chopped brisket, sausage, ham, or turkey!
