Labor Day BBQ Essentials: Texas Ribs

Labor Day BBQ Essentials: Texas Ribs

Labor Day 2025 is going to be one long weekend, and there’s no better way to celebrate and spend time with your friends, family, and colleagues than with a Labor Day BBQ!

As the centerpiece for your cookout, we recommend Texas BBQ ribs. You just can’t beat them, and it’s a chance to enjoy one of the best BBQ meats, considering other holidays focus on big turkeys and briskets.

But, there are ribs and then there are Houston-style ribs. If you ever enjoyed the kind that falls right off the bone, you’ll know what we mean. So, here’s a guide on how to do Labor Day BBQ Texas Ribs the true Southern way.

Labor Day BBQ Texas Ribs, The ‘Goode’ Way

Fall-Off-the-Bone Texture

At Goode Co., we've been slow-smoking meat since the 1970s. Our traditions are tried and trusted. They’re Texan and unbeatable.

So, trust us when we say that you need to smoke these ribs low and slow. We put the pork over mesquite pits for up to 12 hours, giving it a delicious, flavor-rich outer taste and an incredibly tender interior.

This means that when you put them on the grill, they’re set to have that fall-off-the-bone texture. We mean, one bite and it slides off. Delicious.

Signature Rubs

To get that bold flavor, you can add an extra punch with signature rubs. At Goode Co. Shop, we use and recommend our original Rib Rub. It’s a special combination of seasoning, including sweet basil, thyme, ancho chile, and ginger.

You can throw these generously on pork ribs before cooking or grilling. We also recommend some rich BBQ sauce - don’t hold back, that’s what makes them dam Goode!

Get Them Delivered to Your Door

Next, remove the stress for your Labor Day BBQ by ordering the Labor Day BBQ Texas ribs directly to your door. At Goode Co, we make it easy by shipping out enough to feed 4-6 people per pack, along with our original barbeque sauce and some Jalapeño cheese bread.

We vacuum seal it soon after it’s left the smoking pits, so it retains that special flavor.

Pair Your Ribs with Classic Texas Sides

No Labor Day BBQ is complete without some original Texan sides. You’ll want them to pair well with the richness of the BBQ sauce, so here’s what we suggest for a hot September BBQ:

Pinto Beans and Jalapeño Cornbread

Celebrate the relationship between both sides of the Southern border with a serving of Pinto Beans, which pair perfectly with spicy Jalapeño cornbread. You can refry them too!

Slaw and Potato Salad

Coleslaw and homemade potato salad provide a creamy and refreshing palate cleanser to cut through the rich meatiness of your Texas-style ribs.

Potato salad is always a hit, for all ages, and is something you can easily prepare the night before and leave in the fridge to ease the workload on Labor Day!

Goode Co. BBQ Sauces Essentials

While you could enjoy your Labor Day BBQ, Texas Ribs with any bottle of BBQ sauce. We promise it won’t hit as hard as our Goode Co. Shop barbeque sauce! This original recipe is made from a recipe we concocted back in 1977! Using a traditional Texas tomato base, it’s the only way to truly enjoy an authentic Texas BBQ ribs experience!
