Join Houston’s own Goode Co. Shop in celebrating National Brisket Day on May 28th! Every year on this special day, fans of this most tender, juicy, and delicious cut of smoked beef come together to share brisket cooking tips and recipes, and here in Texas, we know a thing or two about barbeque!
Texas smoked brisket is a tradition that dates back to the late 1800s, and it is known internationally for its quality, meticulous preparation, and depth of flavor. Goode Co. Shop has been selling some of the best BBQ in Texas since 1977, when Jim Goode and his uncle Joe Dixie opened their first eatery in a red barn in the heart of Houston. Since then, we have prided ourselves on our slow-smoked brisket and brisket sides, and there’s no better time to showcase our love of Texas BBQ than National Brisket Day!
The Art of Texas Brisket
Texas brisket is an institution and an art in itself, requiring careful cooking and dedicated equipment. It is one of the most challenging of the nine prime cuts of beef to cook, but it’s also undoubtedly one of the most satisfying. Goode Co. Shop's brisket uses only the finest prime USDA beef and is lovingly prepared with hand-blended signature rubs. It is then smoked for hours over sweet-smelling mesquite wood in our barbeque pits to save you the trouble!
Goode Co. Shop's products stand out thanks to our unwavering pride in craftsmanship and dedication to delivering authentic, high-quality Texas BBQ. Our almost fifty years of experience have taught us that there are no shortcuts to preparing the best cuts and that good things do indeed come to those who wait. Our family-run company strives to bring the best of the South to your table, whether we serve you in one of our local restaurants or deliver to your door.
How to Celebrate National Brisket Day
National Brisket Day is a chance for family and friends to get together and enjoy fine food and company. No matter where you are, consider enjoying a longstanding Texas tradition and host a BBQ with your loved ones! Brisket is a dish for sharing, after all, and makes a fine centerpiece for an al fresco shindig with all the trimmings.
It wouldn’t be fair to keep our special Texas BBQ products all to ourselves, so you can order online at Goode Co. Shop, and we’ll ship directly to your door. You could make it a National Brisket Day to remember and order a Classic Mesquite Smoked Brisket and mouth-watering brisket sides as your barbeque’s centerpiece, which are guaranteed to please BBQ brisket lovers everywhere!
Goode Co.Shop’s barbeque collection makes the perfect addition to any Texas BBQ banquet, including our Slow Smoked BBQ Ribs, Mesquite Smoked Turkey Breast, and Nanny Longoria’s famous Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie. Other staples might include homemade macaroni and cheese, potato salad, oven-roasted corn on the cob, or a classic creamy coleslaw.
Of course, you’ll need something to wash all this food down, and why not run with the Texas theme on National Brisket Day? Texan drinks include Lone Star Beer, a Texan Mule (a Moscow Mule but swap the vodka for whiskey), or a Lone Star Lemonade (Tito’s Texas Vodka, fresh lemon juice, honey, mint, and soda). Try the latter without the vodka for a refreshing alcohol-free alternative, or otherwise, strong flavored juices such as cranberry or pomegranate pair well with brisket and other red meats.
Cooking Tips for the Perfect Brisket
Most people don’t have the facilities—or hours of free time—to make the perfect smoked brisket at home, but don’t worry—Goode Co. Shop has you covered! Most of our products are precooked before shipping; you only need to reheat and serve. Order your brisket online and follow these instructions to reheat and restore its succulent, smoky glory.
- To start, preheat your oven to 275F (250F for a convection oven).
- Lay two pieces of foil, each measuring 36” long, in a cross on a large pan.
- Remove the brisket from its packaging and place it in the center of the foil.
- Pour ½ a cup of water over the brisket.
- Fold up the sides of the foil like a tent and seal at the top, leaving room between the meat and the foil.
- Cook for 8 minutes per pound, or until the temperature at the brisket’s center is 40F.
-
Remove the brisket from the heat and leave it to rest in the foil for 15 minutes before serving.
Voila, your perfect smoked brisket is ready to enjoy! However, if you're making your own brisket from scratch, try our Goode Co. Shop Brisket Rub. It’s crafted from the same BBQ brisket recipe we use right here in Houston. Just shake it generously over the brisket and rub it in by hand before cooking to get the authentic Goode Co. Shop flavor!
